Abstract
Lirio amarillo is the spanish for Yellow flag, a traditional source of tannins and therefore black color. This plants grows in ponds, creeks, riverbanks, etc.
The parts used to obtain tannins are the roots. Other use of this great plant is phytoremediation and phytodepuration as the roots diffuse oxygen from air into the soil and water through the roots. 
Description
Growing in good conditions it can reach one meter high, and it gives big yellow flowers in may. The seeds can be harvested after a hot summer on september. Every fruit has many rounded flat maroon seeds that float on the water.
You can start the seeds in seedlings or in pots, if you have a pond you can plant it in a pot as it grows quickly year after year. You can divide it to multiply it of use the roots every three years. I can also grow in a sealed pot. It likes high nitrogrened and dumped soil.

The seeds have a wild origin and have been grown in the pond of Huerta Cantarranas, a community garden, in Madrid, Spain.
